So I'm just in the process of tidying and recording the monthly accounts and I need to make 2 separate payments to my credit card (I keep work and personal transactions separate in a spreadsheet and make corresponding payments).

I have two separate payment transactions set up in my banking, both with exactly the same sort code, account number and personal reference. I make a payment to the first and it say's, this payment can be made as a faster payment, will be with recipient in 2 hours blah de blah, bingo.

I make the second payment mere seconds later (remember, from the same account, same web page, to same recipient details), sorry but this payment cannot be made as a faster payment, it will be 3 working days...

This happens every time, why?

It's a fraud indicator, so they'll be reviewing the transaction to make sure there's nothing dodgy going on. A typical fraud process is to try a certain amount, then if it works try some more!

It would be possible to recognise transactions that happen regularly but there are further fraud risks that could be missed by doing that. Plus, being an IT guy, I guess you know how resistant to changes business can sometimes be, when they find out what it costs to do!!

If what Ste is saying it true, then make the payments around the other way next time, then you'll know.

I'd imagine you'd need the first payment to clear the payment system before it'll process another - maybe just a few hours will do it.
