Even though there must be a lot of expertise in getting it right, synchronised swimming does not do a lot for me. But as they say, the world would be a much duller place if we were all the same.

Dennis

I'm not a fan of the synchronised stuff either  !

I had a strange experience this evening while walking my dog. Out on the playing fields was a young lad with his mother and sister. I'd guess he was no more than eight or nine years old. Suddenly, he did three back flips, a couple of cartwheels without using his hands, and finished off with the sort of manoeuvre which would have put a Spitfire to shame. I've never had much time for gymnastics at the Olympics but what this lad did was amazing. Perhaps there are some sports which television doesn't do justice to; perhaps gymnastics is one of those.

Gill

That's true. Years ago when TV was still on learning curve the range of sports shown was much more extensive that today.
What dog have you Gill?

Roy.

You're leading me off-topic, Roy =; ;) .

She's a long haired chihuahua. There's a photo of her here.

Vormulac,

Please allow me to apologise for my rash use of words.
I actually mean those parasites hanging on to the various minister's coat tails. All of whom will be sitting in the VIP boxes.

I know better than you might think about the valuable work you people do for what is joke money.
My first career was as a NHS Med Lab Scientist, and the second career was as a Design standards engineer for Medical devices.
I was a regular at the DoH at Russel square when IEC 601 was first being written.

Thank you for your apology Lurker. In a world where the stock response to a suggestion of accountability for one's actions is bluster, I think it takes more strength of character than ever to apologise for ones actions.

No hard feelings,
Vormulac.

I think we need to be very careful scoffing at the chinese.

The London olympics is going to be the biggest, most embarrassing, most expensive ****- up this nation has ever witnessed.

Yes ANOTHER ONE !!! To go with the DOME , the wobbly bridge , The RIVER OF FIRE " That went out " , Wembly stadium !!

Think I will GO AWAY for 3 WEEKS , as I am close enough to be affected

BOY my heart sunk when they said " LONDON " and as a Londoner I must pay X amount a week in my council tax for god knows how many years to pay for it

And there is NO OPT OUT

When it was all hyped up there was a web site to log onto and give your support , BUT surprise surprise there was NO site to log your objections

I had better go now as I am getting the hump

Gill. my wife says if you ever want to get rid of the pooch she'll find room for another!
She says it's gorgeous!

Roy.

:)

I know I'm biased, but she is gorgeous, isn't she? She turns heads every time we take her out for a walk. Oh, I could tell you some tales about our little Rio, but there's nothing more boring than a dog owner who loves their pet.

Interesting. No response from the individual concerned yet - Rob

Rob,
Just to explain timings:

Vormulac posted after I'd logged off for the day, yesterday.
I logged on at 8am today and straight away sent my apology - only now have I read the rest of the comments others sent.

I'm just explaining that the several criticisms did not spur my reply (cos I had not read them) , just Vormulac's original post.

Yes the apology extends to anyone I offended.
Was surprised about you - I thought you were retired

Not yet...few years to go  Thanks for the apology, hope to meet at Westonbirt next Sat if you can make it - Rob

Not to another dog lover Gill. When I married I left the family dog behind of course and we were give a Cocker Spaniel as a wedding present. We've never been without dogs since and I've been married for 39 years.
The only problem with dogs is that they don't live long enough.
Parting isn't sweet sorrow.

As I posted earlier gentlemen this is the sort of thing that gets people's backs up and brands Civil Servants as neither the one nor the other. As was mentioned also about accepting responsibility, it's always a 'spokesman', never a name, never any blame.
I wonder how this pratt would have felt if it had been his daughter drowning not waving!
No disrespect to either of you nor anyone else on this forum but I'd love a few minutes alone with this 'spokesman'!

Roy - agreed, that issue sounds deplorable and probably is, however if you look at the utter dross of a rag it came from it's difficult to gain an objective view of the H&S requirements that the 'spokesman' was wittering on about. What were the repairs done to the boat, was it seaworthy, would more lives have been put at risk without inspection etc? Clearly the RNLI guys did the right thing, but it would be much better to read a more objective account as to why the boat was grounded. Frankly, anything printed by the Sun is fit for only one thing...fortunately a much softer version's available at Tesco's - Rob

Last time I posted from the press Rob I was told it was rubbish 'cos it was from the Daily Wail, so this time I posted from that doyen of the hard right??? The Sun, but it is also in the Daily Express.
Another example, today I visited my local hospital for some fresh hearing aid batteries.
'Sorry, can't take the old ones back!'
'Let me guess, Health and Safety?'
'Fraid so.'
So why what was 'safe' last week has, this week, suddenly become a weapon of mass destruction, or is this case of a petty fogging, time serving jobsworth with nothing better to do working out yet another method of making life unnecessarily difficult for the rest of us. Meantime what are people like me supposed to do with the spent batteries?
Politely please!

Roy.
