After delivering the blanket chest i made a start on my next commission, an open shelf unit in oak. Of course most of it will be made in veneered MDF so I started by cutting all the pieces out.

Next job was to cut the Domino slots into all of the boards. after a bit of careful measuring I had them all cut.

Then it was on to some lipping of the edges in solid wood. Good job I have lots of these clamps.

My next job was to cut the rebate at the rear on the table saw and it was then that disaster struck! in my haste I pushed the wrong side through the saw resulting in this mess.

Well it meant a step backwards and after trimming off the damage I re-lipped the edge. After it had dried I got back on track and routed the profile on the edges.

I also lipped the edges of the shelves but left these with a flat profile just rounding the edges slightly.
Tomorrows job will be to lip the three edges of the top and build a small drawer for the bottom and then on to a plinth which will be another day I think. :D

Alan

Do you mark out with pencil for the dominoes or use the guides (dogs I think they are called on the fence)? I have been marking out with a pencil which on oak is not very easy to see, especially on the long grain, but cannot seem to get my head around using the dogs.

What are those clamps you are using to attach the lipping, they look very useful?

The speed of your work never ceases to amaze me and you still find time to take photos!

Well Charlie on this job I used the 'dog' guides of the Domino for the two outer slots but for the central one I made a guide from a scrap of MDF. If I have to work to a pencil line I put a piece of masking tape on the edge and mark onto this with a Rotoring pencil.
Those clamps are edging clamps and are pretty cheap. Screwfix used to sell them but I think they have stopped now, I do however think that Toolstation does them. I think they cost me about £4 each. HTH.

Yes that's the pencils I use Charlie. Good to see that Screwfix have them back again, they are very good clamps for the price. Thanks. :D

I got on very well today (after yesterdays catastrophe!) My first job of the morning was to add the lipping to the top.

Then on to making the drawer front. I cut a chamfer on it with the table saw and then added some bull nose lipping to the edges.

Then on to the bandsaw to make the plinth. After a good session with the pillar drill and a sanding drum I mitred and glued it all up.

Finally at the end of the day I routed a detail on the top.

I wont get back to this until Saturday as I am out fitting tomorrow. Will keep you posted as usual. :D

Over the last couple of days I got a finish on the inside and managed to assemble it.

I still have to put a finish on the outside as this is still in sealer at the moment.

The drawer is just sat in there as I need to put the runner strips in yet.

:D

I delivered this unit tonight and the customer was very happy with it and has stated they will be calling on me for more work in the New Year. :D They are going to send me a photo of the unit in use with all of the electronic kit in it. :D

As the customer requested it Rob. I know nothing about games consoles and the customer stated that this one gets pretty hot in use so wanted the slots in the side too. :?
