Tackling this from another angle.

You can buy a thread cutter (tap) and run this into a suitable bit of wood, then mount on the lathe & true up. That way you can make unlimited faceplates & jam chucks. I also use this (in place of a pronged drive)when trueing up logs before sizing down.

I bought one from Toolpost -I think it was 15 quid.
 
Cheers Jim. I actually have one of those, picked it up for £4 on eBay. But I thought this route would be much simpler. Still might try the tap method one day.
