From what i've seen separators work great as long as the seal between lid - pipes etc is *ahem* airtight on the drum being used as separator - any leaks will reduce the air pressure values.

hook it all up again and grab yourself a smokemaker of some sort - incense stick, slow ember on a bit of wood, anything and (someplace with no wind perferably) hold near all the places things join, you'll soon spot any issues.

Looking at "customer reviews" for a similar machine I see one user says
This machine is suitable for extracting chips from one machine at a time but not a sander when it must be fitted with the fine 700345 filter cartridge. I would fit one anyway as it also increases airflow to the point where you can use it in a small piped installation
Is this so, do you get better (stronger) airflow with a filter cartridge than the standard bag?

Can anyone who's fitted a filter cartridge confirm this please?

Hi Selwyn,

I have the same Axi chip extractor and only use it for my P/T where it's mostly chips being generated with just a small amount of dust. It copes OK. I give the top bag a good cleaning (vigorous shaking and brushing) at each emptying. I don't have a need for a cyclone interceptor.

For all my other machines (bandsaw and table saw) and power tools I have an NV750 from Axi. I have no cyclone on this system yet but am seriously considering one to prevent the primary filter becoming so clogged with dust.

Hope this helps,

John

Try connecting it direct to the 'producer' and make sure there are no blockages its one horse power should be fine for this job.I assume you are useing cloth bags top and bottom for the greatest suck.

i have one of these between the extractor and machine i kept the pipe runs as short as possible sealed all the joins with duck tape and put extra foam draft excluder inside the the lid of the bin . my extractor is fitted with a bag not a fine filter how often do you clean the filter ?

I have an older Elektra Beckum extractor that I bought used with a filter cartridge. It works fine with plenty of suck for my p/t. But the filter does gradually block with use and every time I empty the sack of chippings I also take the filter to the compost bin along with a rubber mallet and give the filter a good hammering - it always amazes me just how much fine dust is dislodged from the pleats of the filter. Once refitted after cleaning the suck is noticable increased,
