I had a few minutes to kill this morning and it was market day. One stall had a load of bric-a-brac, but amongst all the tat I spotted this:

It's all complete: small compass, large articulated compass, extension arm, points case and screwdriver, all in a velvet-lined case. Even the case is in good condition.

I lost my rather excellent set from school days in the haul, but this will do as a very nice replacement.

Snap! This my schooldays set from 1966 :shock: lost a few bits along the way, but I still use the compasses.

Its a pen with an adjustable nib for drawing different thickness lines.

That made me smile. I have a similar set in the attic that has been stored away for donkey's years. I had it at school and College. Don't know if these are use in today's schooling?

I have a smaller set which consists of two compasses and a selection of leads and spiky things in a capsule. My father bought it in '71 from a shop in Blackpool for his studies at the nearby Fleetwood Nautical College.

It was made somewhere in the Eastern Bloc; I'll dig it out later and take a look.

I have the self same set Still use it for marking out the circle when converting bowl blanks. My case is rotting fast but the instruments are good as new. And the quality.....just no contest compared to the rubbish you get nowadays.
