newbie needs plane advice

Hi

Does anyone know a good site that covers the use of different planes and descriptions etc. I have inherited a couple of planes and not sure what types are best for what jobs. Confused about smoothing planes, shooting planes, try planes etc.

Well the links in the "Know" list on the left here are good, particularly this one for a brief look with pretty pics but dubious text and this one for more depth than you can possibly cope with. Not to say they're all dead-on accurate, or even that I'd personally agree with some things, but 'tis a good start. Oh, and Blood & Gore of course.

And I didn't pick that first link as a good source 'cos of being linked in it rather a lot ; the one I tried first didn't have such an easy one-page place to point to. Oh, but have it anyway - here.
