Wikipedia has a pretty good write up of the pros and cons http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_circuit.

Neither circuit is perfect but the ring just brings with it additional complications for little benefit since there is no longer a severe copper shortage (although I believe the world will suffer another copper shortage in the not to distant future).

DD, your lekkies, fed on Calvados! I'm not surprised! We do have about 6 like that around the house mind you

Talk about 'no gaine, no pain'? There's enough gaine there for everyone..

Tell me, is that lovely peniche restaurant still on the canal by Pegasus Bridge? We have had some lovely meals in there when we stopped at the campsite overnight on holidaze before we moved over..

John,
Peniche restaurant? Is that a river boat? If so than I have never seen one on the canal by Pegasus Bridge. There is the cafe (1st to be liberated etc etc ) and the restaurant above the museum - that's all I think.

Andy

Peniche, French for bloody great barge and it used to be moored a couple of hundred yards North of the bridge. It went through a couple of patches where it was closed and looked derelict, but seemed to come back to its former glory. The 1st to be liberated was a total tourist trap and we never did more than look through the door. The one on the opposite side of the road was OK though, but not as good as the peniche. The museum had just opened when we went there last, about 7 years ago, and I don't think the restaurant was open then.

Sorry, yet another hi-jack! I will try not to do it again

Have you got any more news on your devis for your box yet Lee?

From the input here I have concluded that I could get the consumer unit replaced for significantly less than the amount I was quoted.

But as a replacement MCB for the one that is causing the problem (a 30A MCB tripping at not much more than 10A) is available (mail order), I'm probably going to live with the existing CU.
