Anyone ever heard of this brand of 1/2 collet routers?

I can get one for £55 in new condition.

For £55 and occasional use its got to be a bargain?

George they are about £60 or £70 on ebay so £55 is not bad, but I have always thought that you should buy the best you can afford. Now for occasional use it might last you a lifetime, but it might also burn out in a week.
It's like those 301 piece drill bit sets that you can get for £19.99, where each bit will only last for a couple of jobs if you are lucky.

On more than one occasion SWMBO has called me a tool snob because I will only buy a named brand. So my advice is not really unbias.

Good luck with what ever you buy.

Cheers

Mike

I hear what you're saying Mike and I agree that its best to go with the leading competitors in terms durability, precision and performance, but I disagree with the OTT price of the leading competitors pricing for their power tools.

If they brought their prices down to a sensible level their sales would rocket overnight.

As much as I'd like an Makita/DeWalt I have to stick with a Ryobi, which is not bad actually considering its price,if I don't buy the Neilsen then there's another Ryobi that I'll go for providing the price is right..

Cheers Mike.

Hi George,

Ryobi is not that bad a manufacturer especially for the Diyer and you can find some bargains out there :D

Cheers

Mike

Solong as their back up for spares is available, and it is.

In the 3 years of hammering it, I only had to replace the brushes.
Funnily enough its quiet and precise in the cuts.

So would their quality, durability, precision and performance, down towards the levels of those who sell in the lower price brackets and build accordingly.

I would go for the Ryobi as others have said, or keep an eye out on Ebay for something secondhand and unglamorous, but good quality, like a Makita or Hitachi maybe.

George you'll find no matter what tool you have you'll always fancy something better (bit like women  )
I've got the big Makita and would like the big Festool 8) ( also fancy trading the wife in for 21yr old twins)

There's a few Porter cable going on ebay at the mo,refurbished as new, price bracket buy now at £99 and £119...problem is then I'll have to buy a site transformer as they're 110v

:(

I bought a Ryobi on special offer at a DIY store - 129 eurio including a router stand. Both were crap. The router table was dished which messed up trying to put a tiny 1/2 round moulding on some panel edges.
The router eventually (guarantee + 1 week) spat out its own bearings.
I slung the lot, having cannibalised the hold downs, feather board and novolt switch socket.

Can't say I have had trouble with the one I have ERT2100,stil lin use after 3 years slog...the last thing I used it for was to build the fire surround that I have shown on this site somewhere.

You're criticising their table, believe it or not but that table is the same table that most manufacture's are selling ie same product different brand.

Maybe you just were unlucky and I'm a bit mystified as to why you didn't return the items?

Just curious, what was the model number?

Spat out its bearings indeed.

Gotta agree with going for the ryobi, I bought their random orbit sander to get me out of the poo, and it lasted a helluva lot longer than I expected. I would always go for ryobi for just a tie over

I've recently ordered a Bosch 1400 ACE router off Amazon for £65. Yes, its in their DIY range but I needed a cheapie and I've always been happy with previous Bosch purchases. I think its a good price for a named brand variable speed soft start router.

Thats not bad Dan.

But why Amazon?Axminster are doing it for the same price and I'd rather obtain it from a reliable source than one that has a backlog of dissatisfied customers.

Mind giving me the link? I could only find the 1200 AE for £70 at Axi, a lower power machine without soft start...
I haven't had problems with Amazon previously, they generally deliver quickly, but I'd be very happy to go with Axminster if they could supply the same model at the same price :)
