Forgive me if I have misunderstood your post, but it seemed like you were critising John's reponse. You did say "if you cannot say anything positive don't say anything" didn't you?

Yes I did and most reasonable people would have read it in the context it was made ...but It obviously missed some.

I have just been reading through this post and feel that John (Triton tools) is correct. I also commend him in surfing the woodworking sites to see what our feelings are about tools and supplies. he is a business man and probably has little time to himself so to give up time to 'browse' these forums for feedback makes the man in my mind someone who is fair and I personally would have no hesitation doing business with him. (When I need my next router I may call upon him) :) It is dissapointing to hear of someone like this being called when really it was not necessary. IMHO. :wink:

As you may have read my earlier post in this thread, I was very happy with the service I received after having a router delivered personally to my home (in thurrock, essex) - I think it may have been yourself, so I would like to thank you again for that service.

However, lets not turn this into a witch-hunt, for whatever reason Andy has felt aggrieved BUT I do feel that it's good for John to have his say, after all there are many poor companies out there, and tritontools IMO are certainly NOT one of them, so I say fair play to you for saying your piece.

John, I shall certainly continue to shop with you and hopefully others will to.

It's all very well saying let's not turn this into a witch hunt but at the end of the day, this post, with its very agressive (and as it turns out, completely unreasonable) title will stay here for a long time for people to see.

How many of people will read it and make a quick judgement and shop elsewhere without reading the whole post to get all the facts.

These kind of things can do a lot of damage, especially to a small business.

Mike, your right, John has told his side and Andy has not come out in glory at all, and will feel the effects of that, and hopefully John's business (which I've promoted positively on this forum) will continue to receive orders.
 
My penneth worth is; people don't know the facts (regardless of what they are told) so shouldn't comment on individual cases.

It would be incumbent on the site owner to remove the thread if it was litigious and libellous in any way and as a precaution I would remove it because it's hearsay no matter who's telling the truth.

As for Triton, I don't like the bra shots on the website, I think they're unnecessary. Campaigns that have nothing to do with the business are also not business-like IMO.

However, although a little expensive, I find the products fantastic and will continue to support Triton in the UK and have so far found their support as good as anywhere.
 
One of my points was that if in the term a condition restoking fee was mentioned for Sure I would have never thought about returning the packet. Companies can't come up with a new term a condition depending on the situation. Finally I can't understand Why now there is not mension of that tiny line in the T&C since the incident.

I agree something should be done about the title, but unlike Kafkaian I do not think the thread should be removed. IMHO it should stay as testament, to show that members (myself included), should not jump to conclusions before we have all the facts. On Andy's word, some of us had John hung, drawn, and quartered, and yet it now appears that Andy was not charged £40 at all, and that in fact under the circumstances he was asked to pay a reasonable fee.

Andy if John had not told his side he could have lost a lot of custom, and I think he deserves an apology don't you?

Yesterday Morning a reminder coming from my computer told me that I have to pay my credit card statement, when finally I found the unopen letter, I checked the statement and found a charge of £58.50 a and a refund of 18.87 made by the same company



I was very angry because of this and the first company that come to my mind was tritontools. blind by fury I published my experince in this forum, But I just realized (checking the facts giving by john) that: I WAS ABSOLUTY WRONG this charged and refund was not made by triton tools :oops:

It is exactly because people HAVE jumped to conclusions. within the thread as well as in creating the thread and responding to the thread, that the thread should be removed.

If damage is being created to a business through remarks which cannot be proven then it is the owner of the site who is responsible.

If it were me, and I run a couple of forum boards, then I'd remove it in accordance with the terms and conditions applied to those boards.

Andy, you should edit your first post or ask the site owner to remove the thread completely. You should be able to change the title according to your edit to reflect the new reality

As for changing the title; well then that's censorship. And in changing it, what would be a fair replacement? Without knowing the full facts of the case, and you don't, people are leaving themselves open to the pot, kettle and black charges.

We know the full facts because we have been told them by both sides. As for removing the thread, is that not censorship too?

Having two sides of the story does not suggest you have the full facts. What if either side wasn't telling the truth?

Removing a thread for legal reasons is protecting ones interests and that of the complainant and potential victim, but if mods change the title (and not the originator), then that's censorship which, with potential bias, could lead to further legal problems.
 
If i were John I would be tempted to sue for defamation. Starting and running a small business is hard enough without someone not being able to read a statement publishing such a slur on Tritontools reputation. I feel strongly about this as I too ran a small retail outlet and suffered similar insults. The annoying fact is that a small firm can do much damage just defending itself.
 
Andy, i thank you for coming forward to put the story straight all i would ask in future is that you have the facts straight / consider what you are saying prior to posting such coments on such a popular forum. I would like to see at least the title changed.....on this! Can that be done?

The problem is, it's the site owner who has ultimate responsibility for this and who should take action. Now that the originator has seemingly apologised for his error, the thread still exists in all its glory. Half read, it's still as damning and that's the responsibility of the site owners.

I think it should be removed
 
The threads been modified as has the title and Andy, hats off to you for admitting your mistake. I've made my own share of mistakes and sounded off in error.

I think that the thread as it stands is worth keeping, if only as a timely reminder.
