Well guys thank you all for the time you have spent discussing this issue and im glad that it has been resolved. Would it be inproper for me to mention some cheap tools which we have for sale? When i say cheap i mean REAL cheap!

I think if John were to contact the site owner(s) over a problem of libel, then there would be no hesitation in removing the thread, which is entirely hearsay, and now full of remarks that other parties would probably regret.

Forum boards have been closed down because of lesser issues than this. What should happen is that the terms and conditions of using the boards should be adhered to and acted upon. As it currently stands, there is no disclaimer nor privacy notice and only the terms and conditions when signing up. This is a risky strategy.

This is how I would do it. Allow the mods to quarantine threads that are in any way potentially litigious and libellous in nature to an admin only forum. Once the site owner(s) are satisifed as to content, delete or reissue to public domain accordingly. In the meantime there should be a mechanism in place for, complainants and potential victims of libel or defamation to be heard quickly in private; either through mods, site owners or otherwise. Complainants should not have to argue the toss in order to defend themselves on the an offending thread as the only course of action.

Ultimately, it's the site owner who publishes the offensive remark through the software, not the originator. A disclaimer should include the words:

It would be improper, but you could get someone, like Andy, to do it for you

Yes i agree that would be a fitting end.Get Andy to post them in a new thread, just don't let him buy them first  .

Yes could do ill have to ponder on that! :-k Well in the mean time i guess you all now know how to get hold of me!

Phew! I'm glad it is all sorted and am especially glad that it was an error and not a malicious attack.

The thread should definately stay, but I think Andy could say more in the original post to make sure noone reading the first few posts gets the wrong idea. "PLEASE READ MY LAST MESSAGE IN THIS TREAT I JUST REALIZED THAT I MADE A MISTAKE" is not enough IMO.
