I can see why you may feel that but the US is the biggest economy in the world (when the US sneezes the world catches a cold) … and we’ve let the US use the UK as an aircraft carrier for a long time so I think we’re entitled to take a view.
Not for much longer. Under Trump I expect US economy will be overtaken rapidly by China.
Especially true if Trump engages in a trade war with them.
Trade deficit with China iro $400 billion.
If the Chinese decide to play hardball effect on US economy immediate and catastrophic

Both of 'em,(Starmer & Strump) act & look like complete 'iriots', IMHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE END OF THE WORLD IS NIGH, PREPARE TO MEET THY DOOM!
WE'RE ALL DOOMED, Mr.Mainwaring! (n)

You could well be right although China have enough problems of their own. I’d wager that the dollar will have lost it’s place as the currency of choice in four years time. What happens with crypto is going to be interesting - there may well be some people who get rich but again I’d wager that there will be a few scandals along the way. Less regulation and a financial product that most people do not understand (but many pretend they do) doesn’t usually end well!

You guys don't live over here and and do not have a clue, the same reason why I do not comment on another countries politics as I only know what the Your news wants to tell us.
Yet strangely, the US doesn't just comment on other countries and their politics, it often gets directly involved in influencing them, overtly or covertly. 🤔

It may well suit the Chinese to keep Trump in place, on the principle that you should never interrupt your opponent when they are making a mistake.
Trump's "buy American" and "we're going to tariff the h**l out of China" don't really work. In many cases there is no available US made alternative to Chinese products.
The lead times to start manufacturing these things in the US are in the order of years, and the resulting products likely to be considerably more expensive.
In the short term if China reciprocates with restrictions on exports to the US, and imports from them, and or tariffs of their own, the effect on the US economy will be profound.

In many cases there is no available US made alternative to Chinese products

If we take a couple of examples:

1 iphone

This iPhone has over half the USA market and apple sell 1/4 billion units globally

Where is it made: virtually none in USA, it’s parts come from Japan, Taiwan, China etc. the Gorilla glass is made in Texas.

Where is it assembled: China, Vietnam, India

The largest assembly plant is Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn), is located in Zhengzhou and employs over 300,000 workers. It can assemble 1/2 million a day.

Good luck relocating that to USA.

Example 2: clothing

USA imports 97% of its clothing.

Levi’s, Wrangler, Lee none are made in USA

What people don’t realise is that it’s American businesses and American brands that are using Chinese manufacture….and it is those brands that would suffer.

China, India, Vietnam etc have Labour rates a fraction of the USA, Trumps tariffs mean either

A) pay the tariff and products in shops go up in price

B) bring manufacture into USA, pay higher Labour costs….products in shops go up in price.

Both of 'em,(Starmer & Strump) act & look like complete 'iriots', IMHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE END OF THE WORLD IS NIGH, PREPARE TO MEET THY DOOM!
WE'RE ALL DOOMED, Mr.Mainwaring! (n)
Have you been living in UK between 2010 and July 2024.

How’s the standard of living and public services been working out for you?

B) bring manufacture into USA, pay higher Labour costs….products in shops go up in price.

I imagine, and I'm not saying this is correct (I have no idea about this stuff), voters porbably think that if ^^ this one happens at least the jobs will be in the US.

American has some serious issues, unprecedented illegal invasion from the south, eye watering national debt, lose of manufacturing overseas, and its NATO partners in the main (UK being an exception) not paying its fair share / committed level of expenditure to defend its boarders and relying on America to defend it all at their expense. States / cities that are now lawless with overwhelming crime levels causing businesses to shut up shop and run, drug epidemic, and an education system once the end if the world so far down the world league table most second world countries now look down on it. Mr Trump has suggested solutions to each major issue, the Democrats offered no solutions and failed to recognise the issues. When you take the emotion and ‘feelings’ out if it, it’s not hard to understand why the Republicans have achieved a revolution and taken over so completely.
Biggest USA problem is of course poverty, which is of course behind crime and much else.
It will only get worse now the place is run by a very weird mob including criminals, dubious and severely untalented characters. Bad news for the world as a whole.
Alarming to hear one on Radio4 this morning talking about how UK needs to avoid building a relationship with "socialist" Europe, to wind back "socialism" in UK - instead to look to USA for free trade agreements etc etc.
Could be a turning point and give a big boost to the left?
Maybe this is what we need; a shock exposure to the deep lunacy of failed politics of the unwoke, violent, neo-liberal, free-market, de-regulated, climate change sceptical, etc.
And Harris lost by being too timid about radical change. Starmer turnout similarly low but he scraped in by default.
We need louder and more radical outspoken voices from the left, not least over climate change.

The yes minister episode is very funny.
But in seriousness the catholic church spends billions on good causes every year

The Catholic Church has financed, built, equipped and runs 5000 fully functioning hospitals (70% in Third World); Pharmacies; mobile medical units to reach isolated vulnerable communities.

150,000 schools from primary to university and education programmes for girls in countries that do not educate them.

In addition countless supported living facilities for people vulnerable from physical, mental, learning disabilities, aged, homelessness shelters and hospices. - My uncle- the one who volunteered for them had polio as a child and lived for a time in one of these homes. I suppose thats maybe the reason he dedicated his life to the church in thanks for the support they had given him

Provision tens of thousands of weekly visits to lonely and housebound people worldwide.

Water filtration programmes and assisting disabled civilian peasant farmers and children with limbs blown off by US and European made landmines. Prosthetic limbs, special transport to enable them to be able to continue with education and learn new skills to support their families.
Religion is mad but it gave us art, architecture, music, pastoral care, idealism, morals, sanctuary, education, etc etc...... the building blocks of civilisation as we know it.
Nearest I ever got to joining in was to go along to "Sunday School" when I was about 7, because I heard that you got a "stamp". Turned out they weren't postage stamps they just had pictures of Jesus & Co. on them. Not for a stamp collector! Very disappointing.

I don't know, there are a lot of loonies in the Uk and beyond as well, who will think that a positive. This, together with blackmailing us with the threat of military support being withdrawn (Vance) is a new front in US hegemony. Adopt the US version of 'freedom' or else. Much better to throw our lot in with Europe.

eta - The whole idea that the UK could achieve autonomy through brexit is and always was farcical. We now see clearly how vulnerable the UK has made itself.
