Hello all,
although I have been registered some time ago, this is my first post, so let me introduce myself first. I'm not a woodworker, just an amateur who have a good relationship with tools( lets say a handyman :) ). Also please forgive my mistakes but I'm not a native English speaker . So, the point is that I build some storage units for my home lab (I'm Electronic Engineer), and I am making my first steps to woodworking. From time to time I have to cut laminate or plywood (mostly), pine and fir lumber (rarely) and although I know that the best solution is a tablesaw (actually I learnt it after some study of the forum threads), I don't want to buy one because of my limited space. I don't even have a dedicated space for woodworking or storage in my apartment. I do the most of work with a cs or a professional cuts the large pieces for me ( I hate to pay for that :( and I have always wrong results), but the most significant problem is the small pieces, lets say strips of wood or plywood pieces, for example 40 * 10 cm. So, I am thinking to purchase a mitre saw with table, like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kinzo-Tischkreiss ... m153.l1262
Is it a good idea for my needs or not?

Regards
Spiros :)

Hello Spirtos and welcome.

Although I am not familiar with the particular saw you mention I have had a play with the makita version, which would be better quality, and was not impressed.

IMO you would be better off saving your money and buying a small, good quality table saw, and seperate mitre saw. I got mine second hand and they didn't cost a whole lot more than the Kinzo is priced at.

I did look at a cheap hybrid like the one you have seen, and it was awful. I didn't use it, and don't think I would've liked to.

Buy the best you can afford, and buy once. Someone else will come along soon, and for once I think they will agree with me on this one!!

Cheers,

Neil
