At 9.20 this morning I received a panic call from a good customer of mine who I made a long case clock for about 8 years ago. They are in the process of moving house and at 8am this morning the removal company arrived and apparently knowing what they were doing started to move the longcase without removing the weights/pendulum. As they tipped the clock the head fell off albeit the guys just managed to break the fall.
Unfortunately the glass in the door was smashed and the mouldings broken away from the foot of the head and mitre joint split.
As they are in the same village as my workshop I went straight round and collected the clock, disassembling it correctly and took some very sorry looking parts back to my premises.
I got home half an hour ago, having re-cut and replaced the glass in the door, repaired the broken mouldings and joint before delivering to customers new property and setting it up for them.
I took this photo just before I took it back -
The annoying bit was that I was aware that they were moving as they had asked my advice re the clock and I had offered to move it for them but supposedly the company were specialist movers used to relocating long case clocks - What a joke!
