(Definitely a hand tool question, though not specifically for wood) Jewellry making daughter in the US wants a specific pliers for her work; it's a Maun 4802-160, which has a parallel opening jaws and a set-screw to hold it closed. They are made in the UK, but no-one seems to stock them and Maun don't reply to emails. Farnell do stock Maun, but not this particular model.
Anyone know a possible stockist for these?

Try Shesto. I need a replacement spring for a pair of Maun side cutters one of their show reps send they could help if I rang their office.

Thanks for the links, guys. Will try the distributors tomorrow; unfortunately the Amazon and Ebay ones aren't the right model as they don't have the set screw to hold the jaws closed on the workpiece. That's the problem - lots of places seem to do a variety of Maun pliers, but none so far found include the 4802 -160. The model is definitely on the Maun website, but they aren't very communicative :(

Thanks for those links. They look right, but not sure if they are by Maun - daughter is very fussy about her tools and if she's set on a particular make, hard to dissuade :) (fortunately for UK balance of payments, it seems a lot of the best ones are actually made here). Will follow up and see what transpires.

My links & Woodpigs link are Ikohe brand pliers: See Here

Theres nothing wrong with them and are very likely made at the same plant as the Maun -who's look somewhat, cheaper: Here

Looks like the Acme site is spot on. UNFORTUNATELY, having rung Maun today it turns out that there are two local suppliers in Aberdeen. Buck and Hickman (who when rung, were totally unhelpful) and a local independent, Monks and Crane, who were nearer than B&H and also very helpful. So have ordered via them, which appears to be cheaper than getting direct from Maun.
(Edit - just noticed that Acme are in NEW ZEALAND! So carriage might have been a bit prohibitive. Though, strangely, an old friend must live in the same street as them, or at least nearby)
As folks say, those Ikohe ones do look more or less identical, and are a lot less even than M&C for the Maun, but I was given my orders....... :D

Just looked at the Swanstroms, I wouldn't trust the longevity of that parallel action over the Maun type.

But they are more expensive, so they must be better  .

Like you say, not such a good design at first sight. I'll be interested to compare the Maun one when it arrives with the picture of a much (much) cheaper one on the 'bay.
