It's the camera slightly zoomed telephoto.

?

Makes no sense and a its a tautology.

Pete

or even a pleonasm. :)

"the use of more words than are necessary to convey meaning"

But in this case it didn't convey any meaning!

enough you two. back to your corners.
back on topic.

those tables are nasty anyway. :) price him in rand instead of Euros. :)

I'm putting that down to being a display item in a shop, as such they have experienced 40 years of normal service in a week and also been chucked together by a 16 year old with a butter knife for a screw driver and a shoe for a hammer.

Yes I should have said 'zoomed wide angle', instead of zoomed telephoto but not tautology (or pleonasm  ) either way and the meaning was pretty obvious in any case (camera distortion).
Sorry it confused you!

Zoomed means close up and telephoto is for close ups.

Zoomed wide angle? so a normal angle lens!

If you meant camera distortion then say it, its quite simple.

A zoom lens has variable focal length which gives wide angle to telephoto according to the design. My camera standard lens goes from 18 to 55mm so is a wide angle zoom lens. Some do both, from well below 50mm (mid range 'normal') to well above. Some only go above so are 'telephoto' zoom lens. Then there are non zoom lenses of fixed focal length, which may be wide angle, or telephoto, or in between.

I thought they were identical to start with, but if you look at the outer tips of the lower legs, they are not vertical. I dont think thats an optical illusion.
bob, you get the same sort of optical illusion with the ubiquitous Robin Day designed polypropylene chair when stacked, see below. The legsets are all the same of course. Slainte.

Thanks for the lens lesson! I did wonder what all those things I fit on my 4 DSLR did!

50mm is only normal on a full frame camera, if its a crop body it would be the equivalent of around 80mm lens.

That's OK Pete feel free to ask a question if there's anything else you don't understand.
Perhaps not bother though; you may be getting a bit boring and will just annoy people!

It's not camera or lens distortion, and it's nothing to do with focal length either - it's just perspective.

That's why I was able to correct it using Gimp's Perspective tool.

hmmm, identical would make it a lot easier. Large graph paper here I come.
My "corrected and cropped" image should be perfectly accurate EXCEPT for the height/width ratio, which there's not enough information in the image to tell automatically.

But it's easy to create from scratch, because it's just an exercise in duplication and symmetry.

Take a horizontal line, and a sloped line, make a curve between them.
Now make a "bump" by copying this line and mirror flipping it.
Now make a table piece by copying the bump, and moving it vertically down.
sunnybob_table.png

In Inkscape, this is really easy to edit, because all the copies are actually
live "clones" so as I edit the original line, the "bump" and "table" are updated
automatically.

bugbear, no pics?

If you can do it with the puter, the table should be 30 x 45 cm and the height of one table above ground 50 cm.

My pics were on page 2 of the thread.

So the end panels are 50cm high, 45 wide (leg to leg) ?

Aspect Ratio edited, leg is 45 wide:50 high

Jacob, get back in your cage, now!.

Pete, stop taunting the animals>

You wait till nolegs the grown up gets back.

Woodbrains, yeah, kinda. But neither I or my friend know where they came from, the picture itself may well be of chinese copies in the first place. I know he has enough money to buy them if they were available locally, IF (IF) I make them it will be a one off and not sold to the general public for profit, so , yeah, but only kinda.

Mike. LMAO!

Bugbear. You shouldnt let people know youre that smart, they will pester you forever more (I know where your PM button is now). The measurements I was given were for the length width and height above floor level of the tray, not the legs.
Dont suppose you could make a scale template for me pretty please? I could PM you with my email address for delivery.

I know that many are unimpressed with the design but I like it. An efficient design with each table stable and of an appropriate consistent size.

By contrast the "normal" nest of rectangular tables are all of different sizes, the smallest is usually unstable, and the design and stability can be compromised by the lack of a front rail in all but the smallest.
