Machinery arriving on Monday...WooHoo

Evenin' all

Well, after months of procrastination, research and no small amount of general laziness I have finally placed my order for my workshop machinery and it arrives on Monday :lol:

Order as below

Axminster 4300 Bandsaw
Aminster AW106PT2 P/T
Axminster AW16BMST Bench Morticer
Axminster ADE2200 Extractor (with associated piping and connectors)

Already have a bench and tablesaw and various hand tools (planes, marking tools etc).

I know there is a lot of Axminster there, but after much to'ing and fro'ing and investigation I have decided that this little bounty will serve everything I (as a very green novice and hobbyist) will need for the foreseeable.

Very excited, just need to finish getting the garage in shape this weekend and I can crack on with actually making something rather than just talking about it

Just one question, I know the supplied B/S blades are pants, what would people suggest as replacements? I have seen Dragon & Dure Edge as favourites but what (and how many) blade types (# tpi, skip tooth etc) will I need to get me going? I will want to do some 8" resawing of Oak then things like cutting cheeks of tenons etc, and possibly the odd curves.

Hope you have a lot of fun setting up your new tools and that they help you make lots of new things.

For the bandsaw the widest blade your bandsaw can take with about 4 to 6 tpi is good for resawing. After that I find Dure Edge a good place to talk to for advice about others to have.

I use Dragon on my Axminster bandsaw, I've not used Duredge so can't compare, but I have to say that Dragon are wondeful I've re-sawn 11" AWO and it was like going through butter.

I actually phoned them today and ordered some more as spares, for your machine you'll want 131", that comes in at £17.50 for the 3/4" 3 tpi, thats an ideal configuration for ripping.

Well, everything arrived today (one day late, but that was because the delivery drivers mum passed away on Saturday , so I couldn't be upset with him).

All in the garage ready to be unpacked, but I have to write up someone's appraisal first (damn this management lark!) so it's going to have to wait an hour or so..... :evil:

Evening all

Only had chance to unpack one of the mobile bases before I had to go and measure up for a new pole for my mum's wardrobe then off to play footy, so no hardcore tool porn as yet.

Here are a few of the kit being delivered. The bloke who delivered it got it all in the garage in about 10 mins. I didn't get his name but he was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I will be calling APTC tomorrow to feed back to them how good he was.

Anyway, a few pics for you of the truck pulling up and loading it into the space I had made. Rest to follow over the weekend when I have some time to really get lost in there for a few hours.

The 2 big crates either side of the wagon (behind the driver) were apparently 7ft long 750kg metalworking lathes going to a school in Wigton. Don't envy him getting them off there on his own :shock:

Good man Mark, unfortunately in this day and age Too many people Feedback negatives and complain about the slightest thing :shock:

I've always found the Axminster heavy deliver guy to be very helpful, too. Nice one!
Don't forget lots of rags to wipe of the grease from your new machines - and a quick spray of WD-40 loosens it up nicely.

Yep, ordered some Liberon Wax too so once tables are clean will be waxing them all up to hopefully stave off the demon rust!

Hoping to get another hour in there when I get home tonight before the gym, then working in London for 2 days so after that I won't get to do anything until weekend

Never mind, I have already told SWIMBO that she won't be seeing me from Saturday morning until 5pm Sunday when we take my mum for Mother's Day tea.

Will do a full unpacking WIP, with pics, as I know how much people like them round here :wink:

Nice one Trim- as already mentioned, any feedback like that is much appreciated - I will also link this thread down to the heavy goods team in Devon, as I'm sure they will be interested to see your pics and thread with ***** the driver in (I won't post his name on here, but I know him well - he's a really good bloke as you've said - it will probably freak him out though knowing he is now famous on the internet - hahaha )

Looks like they reserved an entire lorry just for you! Looking forward to seeing the whole lot unpacked... Sometime next year! :wink:

I recognise the packing of the AW106PT - excellent choice indeed! Just remember that after you've removed the chipboard from the outside, the machine itself is bolted to the "pallet" below. So, you won't be able to lift it off until you've undone the bolts.

If SWMBO's gonna be left indoors all weekend, who's gonna give you a hand to unpack and move all this kit?? You're gonna need a second pair, without a doubt! :shock:

I also echo what Philly said about cleaning of all the grease first. On the P/T, I went over the tables and thicknessing bed with some white spirit and 400g wet and dry paper before applying two coats of the Liberon wax - this has given my tables incredibly low friction. :wink:

As for your mysterious driver, his name should be somewhere towards the top of the delivery note?

It's always worth letting them know your appreciation too, good on you.

:lol: Invited a mate over for 'lunch' :wink: so as long as I've got the mobile bases set up and boarded then I should have the hands to help me get them up onto them.

Got that sorted now, Nick from Jet let me know so I called them today and they were very grateful for taking the time. Only right I think, I am happy to complain if service is poor so by the same token when it is good then I like to say so.
