What Philly said, except I use the ROS once in a blue moon. Or maybe not even that often. It's a matter of pride to me that all finished surfaces will have been hand planed or scraped, not used straight off the P/T. Planed is the best finish to my mind, scraped if you really need to, but hand sanding only if absolutely necessary. Except between coats of finish natch. Curved work can get fun, but I've got to justify all those spokeshaves somehow... It's all too easy to get a little bit silly about it, but really just do what looks right to you. Like Philly says, I prefer to plane 'cos it's quicker and more fun. And a "shelf o' sanders" doesn't have the same appeal to me as a "shelf o' planes" :lol:
