I think a proper 'For Sale' and 'Wanted 'section would be a good idea. As would a 'Suggestions' thread.. Preferably with a slot in the suggestion box!

I would tend to not want to see a rule whereby members can't comment on the price or condition etc of something for sale. Newbies like me might have little idea about value and condition (and implications) and to gag people with something to offer would reduce the value of the site. I tend to see someone come in hard and fast (as possibly Tony did however you then see others chiming in with competing views - as you would in a normal conversation. Think about Soulfly and his comments followed up by a rousing chorus of competing viewa - which extreme do you think the OP takes on board? :)

Totally disagree :?

A item for sale is a item for sale , not a subject for general discussion ,
The seller puts a price he his willing to sell the item for ,
If you like the price you buy it ,

If you don't like the price you either make a offer or don't buy it

As for condition , you either go and see it or ask questions

Cant see how anyone benefits from people who have no intention of buying getting involved
:?

It's like those eBay people who send you a message about your item for sale either slating it or telling you it's not worth what you've listed it for.

They'll never get those precious seconds back. Total wasted time.

I can see why the OP might have been a bit mifffed by by those (Tony's) comments. When I read it, it sounded arrogant - like a real put down - I know what it's worth better than you and I think your pushing your luck.
If your interested in buying, PM the seller. If it's not for you, shut up.

It does raise an interesting point though, on other forums I have been on, where they have a for sale section it's against the rules of the forum to comment on the price of an item being sold.

Being a moderator though, (and arrogant too), he can say what he likes and get away with it.

I see your point and pretty much agree - the conversation between the buyer and seller would tend to happen via PM and the end result might in the fullness of time become know. However if someone has something to say it can still be useful to others. After all we've all seen comments on other suppliers prices etc. I've always found this site and especially the people to be very helpful and generally very positive and wouldn't like to think that they can't contribute (even in an arrogant way etc) :)

I sort of agree with you miles but i think people ought not to comment on the sales thread if they are going to be negative - look at the bad feeling that this between tony and bn has generated.

if as a newbie you want to know if a certain sale is good value , i'd start a seperate thread saying (for instance) "how much is a LN no.4 worth" then tony or whoever can chip in with whatever they want to say but leave the original sales thread uncontaminated.

Thats sensible.
