and one that didn't come with, anyone care to guess what this is?

the stage is a bit ropey and the setup is difficult at full magnification, I think the register for the lenses is off a bit but the illumination is good and the lenses ok. I am running the camera in a virtualbox under win xp as I can't get it to play under Lunux :(

All in all a very good £50, I shall spend some time in the future playing with a plane blade and a few sharpening systems I think

I bought one of these a while back for looking at sharpening technique. Think it's been in the cupboard since I had a play! I didn't find it muchbetter than a Digital Blue play one I bought on Ebay a while back. But it's very good for the price - and of course if you want to use it for more than just looking at sharpening!
Cheers
Gidon

It is actually the edge of my swiss army knife, and is still sharp enough to shave with, just!

I assume they are holes caused by general mistreatment and possibly corrosion helped bu the varied use of the blade :)

I bough one too and had a very quick play over the weekend. I must admit, the pics I was getting out of it are much better than yours danny. I don't know if it is an issue with yours, or they way you set it up (no offence intended with that).

I will have a play during the week and post some comparative pics.

In what way better? I am using the camera and the highest magnification lens, The stage is a bit poor on mine but the resolution seems better with the eyepiece rather than the camera. Have you the same supplied slides? that would make for an interesting comparison, especially the fly's led which should be broadly similar

By better I just mean a lot clearer and sharper. For instance, the fly's leg pic I took (binned it now so will have to try and get another) seemed much clearer than the one you have posted.

I would imagine we have the same slide set so I will try a few and post up. Maybe it's my imagination, I will give it a go and post them up for comparison :)

the images here have been reduced from 2560x1080 to 800x338 in the case of fly 1 for example, that might not help their clarity :)
