Hi, I have obtained an old Kity combination machine, it has no name on it, but the elderly gentleman who had it previously said that he thought it was a K5. Having read through some of the posts here, I guess it is the one with the splayed legs. I would be very grateful if someone out there has a PDF of the manual that they could send me. I have tried the machine out and everything is working except the thicknesser, I took the cover off the planer part of it and saw that the belt was pretty well scrap. Have you any idea where I can get one from and what size it is. I have only just joined, so hopefully I have not made any mistakes and posted in the wrong section.

Many thanks,

Melvin

Have sent you a pm Melvin. Don't have the manual for that one but the one the superceded it will still help. It may of course not be a K5 so photos would help determine that.

Thank you Bob, I have sent off to a company in France for a belt as I was unable to find one locally at present. I will continue to search around in case I ever need another as the cost was high owing to the carriage charge. The bearings were very reasonable from a local firm. I was able to get the guard for the spindle moulder from the chap I got the machine from.

Hi poppajoe
I don't have the K5 but I do have a Kity P/T. The last time I needed a new belt for it I got what I wanted at my local motor factors and it was not very expensive. Too late for you now, I guess, but this might help someone else, or you next time.

Hi Steve,

The problem I had with the Kity K5 is that the belts are flat. The one I needed was the thicknesser belt and it is only 6 mm wide, I found a firm on the internet that sold the right length belt but only 10 mm wide. I did think of buying one (about £6.00,) but wasn't sure that I could cut it to size satisfactorily, hopefully when I get the one I ordered I will buy the cheaper one and try.

I will try the motor factor route and there are lots of V belts around, but they won't fit the K5 unfortunately, but thanks for the info.

Yes, I know the one you mean. And you can't replace it with a V-one running inside out, as there isn't enough clearance at one point in its travel. I bet yours is the same as mine, in that respect, they won't have changed the engineering any more than absolutely necessary.
But a wider flat belt works fine, up to at least 1/2", IIRC. And that extra width means that it is less likely to wear out so quickly.
And also, IIRC, the original is 710mm. I found that 705mm works better.

Hi Steve, the K5 belt is smaller than yours, 530mm I think but should still have been available from the UK somewhere. There used to be a company on ebay who were French, is that where you ordered Mel?

Hi Bob,

I found the one on Ebay, but as I thought the price was somewhat excessive I went to the firms home site and the price was 10 Euro cheaper, until I added in postage, then it came to the same price as on Ebay, so I bought it from them anyway, cost 25.98 Euro in total. Pricey, but necessary to run the thicknesser, it hasn't arrived as yet so I will let you know how it performs. I will try again to find a cheaper way of getting another for a spare.

I actually have a spare I bought at the same time as the machine well over 30 years ago and never needed to use it - so far - bound to break next time out now! #-o

There was a Uk supplier at one time but can't find him now.
