Hi all

was just wondering if anyone in my area has a job vacancy for anything woodworking .

I have completed and passed my caa level 2 diploma in site carpentry which the first yr was bench joinery.
I have 5 weeks notice to work.

Im in Essex cm77

to fill you in a bit..... Woodworking is all i want to do. The job im currently in i have been loyal to for 17yrs and feel now is all my time to move on.

Good luck in finding a position.

Of course you could always take the plunge and go self employed - if I can offer any advice please do not hesitate to ask.

Wish you lots of luck. I'm trying to do what I love doing but it's proving to be extremely hard going. I was made redundant, but I also don't want to go back to doing 'the day job'. I know how you feel.

Good luck, hope you get something soon. If you do go self-employed and make a living I will be quite envious, its what I want to do and its really the only step I can make forwards in my working life - anything else that I could get will either be a sideways step or more likely a step back.

Again, good luck - and keep us all posted.

Ok this was a quick one!!!

I am going for a 'chat' next week sometime in a furniture making company!!!

HOW SCARED AM I!!!

keep your fingers crossed everyone!!!

I have just retired but if there is one thing I learned during a full working life it is that doing something you enjoy, something that interests you, is more important than just earning money.

The best of luck to you.

So, went for the chat!!!

I was there 1hr 45mins and got on really well with the MD and the head of woodwork.
Unfortunately... as suspected .... I didn't have enough experience for the role she needed to fill :(

However there was a role she thought she'd mention in the finishing area... reasemble the furniture after spraying and final finishing, not exactly what I want but I'd still have my hands on the furniture, and It's a foot in the door....

So she said she'd have a think on it :?

Had an E Mail yesterday.... she doesn't think I'd be happy in that role as it wasn't exactly what I wanted to do :(

HOWEVER......
Would I be interested in becoming a Cabinet Maker in Training as she thinks she may have that role coming up in the VERY near future, not much money, but she know's this is where my heart lays!!!

:D :D :D :D watch this space!!

Absolutely, money is nice but it's not nearly as nice as doing what you love.

I've just figured that after 17years!!! if it was about the money I'd stay where I am but as you say, I'd rather be doing what I love

Took me nearly 25 years and months of 12 hour shifts to see the light ;)

It's the 'foot in the door' as you put it, we'll pleased for you, and a little jealous if I'm honest.

Well done that girl.

May I echo the comments of others. Fingers crossed and grab the opportunity if it comes.

One of the truths of life is that we continue to change and develop throughout life - something that, as 21 year olds who think we are the finished article, we completely fail to appreciate. I suspect that if you have been in a job for 17 years it hasn't been all bad by any means, but you have changed and developed into something different. I was a lawyer and latterly a manager for 30 years and had a great career with a great firm, but gradually lost the interest in carrying on and was fortunate to have the opportunity to retire early. This gave me the opportunity to explore the world of furniture making and design and enabled me to develop talents I never knew I had, which has been hugely enjoyable and rewarding. The crucial difference for me was that there was no financial risk attached, so I have huge admiration for people like you who have the courage to take that risk. With your drive, enthusiasm, and capacity for loyalty, I am sure you make a success of the chances you are given. Best of luck.

Reminds me of the furniture maker apprenticeship in the Royston area that I looked at.

They politely told me I was too qualified to be eligible for the scheme! #-o

good luck
