was just wondering if anyone in my area has a job vacancy for anything woodworking

Pity you don't live near Cirencester, as I'm looking for local people to make projects for British Woodworking magazine. We are going to be producing eight issues this year, and I need to plan ahead! One idea is to have projects made specially for us, and we do all the writing. I used to do this for Good Woodworking years ago, and it worked really well, but they do have to be local woodworkers.

Cheers

Nick

gutting... would have loved to be in a magazine!

Well done on your progress & job Melinda - fairytales do come true then.[/quote]

That they do. im still in disbelief! just over 3 months ago I was unhappy and could only dream of making furniture for a living .... it happened really fast and im still a little stunned.

well i thought it was time to put an update on here with regards to my career in cabinet making.
As some of you may know unfortunately it didn't work out at the company that i was employed. I enjoyed my time there and i feel i learnt an awful lot, and my skills improved remarkably. I'm able to build pieces of furniture that i never thought that i would be able to build in my lifetime. This is due to certain members of staff at the company rather than the training I was promised.
However as with many places of work management and owners put pay to my dreams. it was not the best place to work but i managed to stay for a year.
However I felt that it was time that i needed to leave rather than risking my working record.

I spent some time trying to repair the damage that the company had done to my confidence and self esteem. Before applying for more wood working roles but unfortunately none of them came through.

So for now I am a full time gardener. But it's not all bad....
Ive passed all my exams and in February I am going back into the industry I know I am good at... in February I start as a junior Paramedic!

Sorry to hear things didn't work out for you, but pleased you have a new career lined up. My wife's retiring from the ambulance service after.......a lot of years, she has seen many changes, not all for the best, I'm sure you will love your life 'out on the road', you are ok at the sight of blood and lose body parts I hope

You will probably develope a 'sick' sense of humour, it will help you get through the tougher days.

All the very best.

Lol

Yes i have a pretty strong stomach!!!
I'm excited but apprehensive it's a big change for mine and my partners lives so we'll see how it progresses.
I'm hoping it'll fit well because I'm a real people person.

Mate of mine, from a while back, quit as a paramedic because his Mrs didn't want to change her job at BA, when they had a baby. He said it was the biggest mistake he ever made, as he loved the job.

Last I heard, he was going back to it, and was happier than he had been for a number of years, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Good luck.

Oh No! I've only just found this thread and I was so pleased to read you'd got a foot into the lifestyle professionally; I'm a little deflated now to read the company didn't fulfill expectations. At least you were able to get enough learning in to get close to where you wanted to be, so it's still a good step in the right direction. In some ways better as now you're calling the shots on projects.
