Jet JTS-600 saw

The Axminster Top Tools leaflet dropped through my door this morning and on the back page it had this new saw;

It looked to me to be a good balance of the features I will be looking for shortly when I replace my Kity, at a reasonable price.

Anyone seen, or used one, or is it really 'new'?

Thanks for that Ed - much appreciate photo's of prospective buys/owners tools etc, for as a "greenhorn" I often haven't a Scooby Doo what some names and numbers mean and I often spend hours trawling t'internet to find piccys!

Blimey that seems like a very good price ?

I'm pretty sure that it is a close of one of the bigger axminster saws (or vice a versa). I have had a play with it at axminster in Bobbing and I like the sliding table, bit stiff but smooth action. The fence is nice too. The whole designs is similar to the sedgwick models. I'm such a fan of Jet, I don't think you can go wrong.

I've never personally handled any jet stuff, but most people seem to speak positively of it.

This look like what the Record TS200C wanted to be. It looks better but I would like to see the set-up and adjustment of the sliding table before making any judgement - if it's the same as the Record then forget it.

It does look good, but at over a quarter of a ton I'd be a bit unsettled in my first floor workshop! That said, the weight is going to be an issue for me on most saws of a reasonable size.

please, please take pictures as you haul whatever you buy up from ground level, through your floor and onto the first floor!!! I would love to be there as it happens.

If you are really concerned about heavy machinery and your floor joists, send me the details.......weight of machine, proposed location along the length of the joists, joist size, spacing and span length, and I'll get a calculation done to re-assure you (or a suggested strengthening design).

Mike, have a good look at the Fox 10" table saw with outrigger, F360-541 I believe, I should know, I have one. Based on the Record, which in turn is based on the Startrite, and I can vouch the Fox is a surprisingly good piece of kit. I also have a Scheppach2500 so I know what they do too.
Mind you, I have heard nothing but praise for Jet brand machinery. Perhaps its all in the finish?

I'd look for a pre-cast iron Scheppach or an EB if that's a real concern.

Cast iron is not the essential it has become to be regarded as.

I think you're right about the cast iron Jake. It gets unduly presumed to be a sign of quality, but there is a lot of crap being made now in cast iron.

There seems to be a bit of a gap in the market for high quality saws in smaller/lighter sizes. Maybe the Kity 419 I already have is it!

Quarter of a tonne isn't that much, although I wouldn't like it on my foot.

Ed - this is the thing that's going to worry me slightly when I upgrade in a couple of years. I've got a suspended floor but the heavy machinery will be placed directly over a sleeper wall so I'm hoping that the load on it will be OK - Rob
