Jet DC1100A Extractor

Any tips on cleaning the fine filter on a Jet DC1100A Extractor i thought the handles on the filter would do the job but it seams not

The paddles get the worst off but on my Axminster equivalent of your DC1100A it then just sits on the internal swirl plates, so periodically I don my mask, remove the filter and brush the swirl plates clean, then I empty the filter on the floor by tapping the sides and turning the paddles. I then use my fine filter Trend T30AF vacuum to clean up the mess and vacuum the inside pleated surface of the filter with a brush attachment. This is perfectly adequate although whether it is strictly necessary I don't know - it may be that regular use of the paddles prevents dust build-up beyond a certain point and I don't need to bother with manual cleaning at all. But I feel better for having done so!

I should stress that this can raise a lot of dust and I always have my positive pressure mask on, and the workshop air cleaner running, and I clean up any settled dust using the Trend. It's not as complicated as it sounds and only takes about 30 minutes a couple of times a year for my hobby use - although I do usually combine it with a general workshop clean and tidy.

Hi Mock, have you made sure the handles are tight enough onto the shaft via the top two nuts so they turn the 'paddles' inside the filter without it slipping?

You should be able to hear a 'thrumming' noise when the handles are being turned - this is the steel paddles agitating the paper filters inside - this will knock all the dust from the folded filters down below.

You have to squeeze the top tightening nuts onto the handle when assembling it (the handle is designed to flatten at the pivot point) and that then locks it into place on the shaft.

Please let me know if this isn't the case, as in all the hundreds (thousands?) out there, I've never heard of this issue before.

Also, just a secondary check, do you have the 'vortex cone' fitted correctly? It sits below the main central body via the bracket and should look like a cone with the point facing upwards.

yes all fitted correct and yes you can hear the paddles while turning the handles and the vortex was also fitted correctly
So can i remove the filter from the inside and perhaps put the compressor on and blow the remaining dust away ??
A photo of the dust extractor filter and iv,e put the hoover in there yesterday and this is what remains today ready to remove the filter and blow the dust away i hope

Ok, so all correctly set up - the thing is the filter is not designed to be removed - normally a blow out once in a while, coupled with a pre-vacuum will ensure there is no build up.

Mock, I'm working in S Wales tomorrow, and if you want I can call in and see if we can sort this, I can also have a look regarding your other post about the ducting system you are planning - I don't know your plans but I will be in your part of the world maybe 3pm onwards?

Well done to Jet. That's the kind of service that would tip me to choose a Jet piece of equipment over another. I have to say that I have had a few issues - not a euphemism but just the occasional problem and sometimes my fault - with stuff I have bought from Axminster and they have dealt with those quickly and efficiently. Equally, I have always been very pleased with the help I've got from Classic Hand Tools when my own ignorance makes me uncertain about what to buy. Sometimes, you want to buy something and read the various posts about views on this option or that option and quite often, they conflict. When I get that dilemma, my choice is to buy the best I can and buy from someone who, like this Jet episode, seems to really give customer service.

Yes i must admit not only today but every time iv,e phoned axminster they have been very help full and they have gone that extra mile . For instance i posted a few questions about my jet dust extractor and out of the blue on this forum Nick replied and said he was in the area tomorrow and he would call in to give me some advice and help Jetman thank you Nick
