Japanese Chisel Hoops

I took off all the hoops from my Japanese chisels and rounded over the handles to mainly use them a,la paring type chisel. Occasionally I'll hit them with a mallet, (without damage he adds)
They are put on them because the Japanese use steel hammers, us in west usually use wooden mallets.
When you buy a 'Japanese chisel' the hoops are loose so you need to burr over the wood to form a dome over the top of the steel.
I found that a little irksome and as I was not going to hit mine with a steel hammer anyway I decided to take them off and use a mallet.
This did make them a slightly shorter than western chisels but twas a minor thing 8)

As a matter of interest, I have a few Japanese paring chisels and they are close on 300mm long. (They come without rings BTW)
