I currently go to an open workshop and use their big Felder AD9-51, but squeezing timber in my car, travelling the hour-long drive, and paying the £25 for 4 hours adds up. It's not terrible to do, and I generally only need to use them once every project, which lasts a good few months.
However, Opening times, Holiday closings and having to book slots in advance can be pretty frustrating, as well as not being able to quickly change the thickness or properly joint a board from my own workshop.
I saw this listed on FBM and thought it would be incredibly handy to have in my shop. Is it worth buying? If so, what is a fair price for it? It's currently listed at 750.
its 12” planner 9” thicknesser looks to be good condition but looks to possibly have a bit of pitting on the bed

Wadkin BAOS PT is a good machine, tables are a touch short at 42" in my opinion, and anything over 6' you may struggle to get totally straight. The other issue is the power supply, you need an original single phase machine if you only have a single phase supply. The three phase machines are difficult to adapt to single phase as they have two motors, one for the cutter block and one for the feed rollers.

It looks to be missing the cutter block guard on the operating side of the fence. It looks like the yellow piece but is green on my machine, and slides into the guard holder which is present, it's just a piece of bent sheet steel so not hard to make if missing. Other things often lost are the infeed and outfeed rollers on the thicknesser table.

Price wise £750 I think is a fair price so long as it is in good condition, motors, bearings etc nothing cracked, tables, fence, body casting etc.

Thank you! I have 3 phase in my shop luckily. I doubt I'll be using anything over 6' but can always go back to the open workshop I need be. I did see that the guard was missing, and agree hopefully shoild be pretty simple to rig up a new one.
I might go have a look at it. I recon the price may be flexible been on sale a wee while.
