Got hold of an Edinburgh church pew, uncertain age but looks like machined joints with hand-cut screw slots and cut nails. It's very dense for softwood - rough estimate 750kg/m^3 - but my best guess is scots pine - thoughts? It was a ~5m pew so I've got quite a bit of this.

pews were often made out of pitch pine, it could be scots pine though, I have bought pieces that nice with very tight growth rings.

Looks like pitched pine, especially your comment about density and weight.

Could be parana pine, it was once very much in use but now seldom seen
That's not parana. I have 8 boards of it; the material between the rings is much 'duskier' in parana.
This stuff is a dead ringer for pitch pine. Like someone said above: the scent of resin when you saw it up is just wonderful.

.....another for Pitch Pine. The smell when cut is quite distinctive. Otherwise Douggie Fir ....again a distinctive smell when cut & less dense.
You could possibly weigh & check density though smell should do it. Good Pitch Pine is a bit precious!

I vote for pitch pine, panelled a room in a large county house with reclaimed Pitch pine a few years ago looks exactly the same
