Hi chaps.
Just thought I'd ask the advice of you hand tool pros.....
I've got these two Irwin Spokeshaves - one flat and the other con(vex?)
I 've hardly used them, but recently decided I'd have a go and see how I got on with them.
Now, I know next to nothing about these things, and have tried getting them set up with no real luck.
I figured it could be because they're junk. The alternative reason is that I'm a bit of a numpty and don't know how to get them working well.
Opinions please, and I care not how abusive they are!!

So assuming that MMUK is being a tad disingenuous (that's the longest word I've ever used on this forum) these are worth keeping.
Now I just need some advice on how to get them 'fettled' and working OK. Any takers…..?

I wouldn't say they were the best you can buy but they are perfectly usable once fine tuned. There's plenty on here who can advise how to get the best out of them.

Well you can get them to work, much flattening of the bed and a razor sharp blade.
The old wooden ones are much better, Preston spokeshaves are good for metal ones but are expensive.
But a Hock low angle blade and make your own, they work very well.

Pete
