Stu_2 ... The trend t11 was also on my shortlist but then I'm nearly at the same cost as the Bosch but without the second base.

Wiggle ... I think I'll give the Triton a go, Screwfix have them at £199 at the moment and that's at least £170 cheaper than the Bosch, I may in time go for a seperate smaller router to use handheld if the needs arise.

Will I need to buy anything else that does not come with the Triton, does it come with a 1/4" collet ???

Cheers again guys.

To those of you that think I have my Router around the wrong way, turning it around so the winder would be on the left makes it ten times worse, the winder would be totally inaccessible, as it is the winder handle hits the fence and only allows half circle winding.

Does it come with a 1/4" collet, damn good question. I don't think so, think it's a 12mm and a 1/2" only.

I originally thought "why do these guys all have so many routers, its just daft" and then I seem to have accumulated 3 routers myself, dare I say i'm considering buying a trimmer as well, where will it end?
To add my advice in, I recently bought a TRA001 triton router and its frankly superb.
Its very quiet compared to my other cheaper screamy (as in loud) routers.
It comes with the handle so you can micro adjust the height through the table, also its worth mentioning that you can also change the router bit from above the table because it raises high enough, the spindle lock automatically engages and you can easily change the bit with the one spanner provided.
The router comes with two mounting t bolts in the base with tightening knobs which you can use to easily mount under your table. Just loosen the knobs and twist to remove.
I seriously considered the festool routers but given that I could buy the tra001 for just under £200, whereas the equivalent festool was over £600 without all the accessories (when you add those in it ended up at more like £850) the cost was a massive factor. But more importantly was that when I tried both out, I couldn't discern 'enough' of a difference to warrant paying 4 times the price for the festool.
To qualify this, I have other festool tools and they're brilliant, but I only bought them because they were worth the extra money. The domino as opposed to biscuit jointers, dowellers etc.
The smaller triton routers also felt just as good as the big TRA001 so I am seriously considering getting rid of my current quarter inch routers and buying the other smaller triton ones instead. I just wish they did a trimmer router.
Anyway I hope that helps somewhat.

I've got the triton and can't fault it for use in a table. It's a bit heavy and clunky for handheld use. Mike is right, if you're just using the front edge of the cutter then the fence will interfere with the winder, but I don't use the winder, I find it easier to just use the fine adjustment on the router, since you will normally be kneeling to get the cutter at eye level anyhow so the control will be right in front of you. Get an NVR switch so you can leave the router switched on.

1/4" collets are available, I have one and an 8mm, 12mm and 1/2".

There we go then, we've saved you some money. I like lager, everyone else?

Cheers for all the advice guys.

I'm gonna be tight git and go for the Triton, as others have said here I won't regret it and that's enough for me.

This place seems really nice, considering I joined in 2014 when I started renovating a house it taken me a good while to get going !!!

Once I've finished jobs for the chief financial officer I will be cracking on with a workshop at the end of the garden and then I'm gonna buy some more power tools. Table saw, planer thicknesser, bandsaw and morticer. I'm also on the look out for a bench drill press and that should be me well on the way.

Cheers again, I'll get some pictures of future project up once I get round to finishing them !!!

Oh yeah, mine a pint of TEA ... Traditional English Ale from the Hogsback brewery which is not far from me.
