FYI, the Mafell Duo Doweller DDF40 only has a maximum dowelling capacity of Ø12mm.
I bought the MAXI kit, which came with a 6mm and 8mm cutter 2.5yrs ago from Axminster …when it retailed for £840 and Axminster did the odd 10% loyalty discount! [Ahhh Brexit!! 💩] To complete the set, I bought the CMT carbide tipped cutters in 3mm/4mm/5mm/10mm/12mm from Applebywoodturnings and have been very happy with the quality compared to the 6&8mm proprietary ones. Applebywoodturning have really competitive prices for dowels too, and without wishing to plug them too much …they specialise in a wide range of wood plugs too!

NOTE: The (older) DD40 P model can take the Ø14/16mm cutters, but lacks the ability to lay flat on the bench and reference off of your MFT table, for example, which is what I like to do with sheet material. There is also an older DD40 G that only does a maximum dowel size of Ø12mm.

I'm a fan of the 500 using it for loads. I definitely use 8mm dominoes most.the big 700 I sold a while back struggling to find a profitable niche. My top 10 biscuit jointer is still In use very regularly.
