Who are you?
Me?

yes you? I don't recognise people with less than 3000 posts :whistle:
Haha, I can't believe you are even conversing with me to tell me that. I would have thought you would be planning your woodworking Kingdom with your haul...

Just go to your profile, select 'All posts by Trim the King' and count back down the list.

For the record, I think it was this one;

They are, it's his house...:wink:

- SSID not broadcast
This one's a bit of a red herring really as if someone is looking then they will see it anyway as all this does is means that the router doesn't broadcast the SSID, but the laptop (or other wireless device) has to broadcast it to pick up the network, so either way a hacker will see it. As you correctly state below...

So now people won't see it unless they try and even if they hack the WPA they will still need to clone a valid MAC address.

I wonder how many neighbours are wondering why their Internet connection has failed.
Because your machine is broadcasting the SSID the hacker will also be able to see the MAC of the machine broadcasting it, so you are presenting both pieces of info to him anyway!!!

The only real protection you have there is the WPA, which should be enough for all but the hardest working of crackers, and to be honest they have better things to do than piggy back on your broadband (in most cases, unless you are unlucky enough to live next to a real crim).

I feel better now. I am helpful sometimes! ;)

Still, it's a shame it wasn't woodwork related, seeing as this is a woody forum and all... :oops:
