It was reported on Sky TV last night that the chap who attempted to destroy that 'plane checked in no luggage! I'm amazed!

The 30-year-old is reported to have boarded in Lagos with no luggage.

and some P-rat let him board!?

Roy.

When it comes to Murtalla Mohammed (Lagos) Airport nothing would ever surprise me!

When you land there you'll normally find loads of Touts offering help with immigration, handling your luggage, taxi services etc. AND this is on the "airside" of immigration and customs!

Edited to say "nothing" rather than "something"!

My next-door neighbour used to have regular dealing with Nigerian Airlines (or Fun Airways as he used to call them). He once phoned Lagos Airport and got through to the control tower (!) where the phone was answered by a 10-year old boy who told him that all the adults had popped out, leaving him to look after the place. No kidding...

And just prior to this episode apparently the US authorities had just given them the thumbs up on their renewed security!

Sigh, I have to fly to the US on 6th Jan. I now expect to be held up at security for a good long while as we bolt the stable door after the horse has bolted. 51ml of face wash sir, sorry you will have to drop it in the bin and buy 50ml airside. Semtex in your underpants - have a nice flight sir.

Yup...no standing up or using the toliets an hour before landing. If the inflight entertainment system has the aircrafts progress on that little map and it can't be separately disabled then it's good bye any inflight entertainment. Oh yes, single item of hand luggage - max weight 6kG.

Apart from secuity at this end, if your plane lands just after (say) a MEA and a PIA flight allow 5 hours for US customs and Immigration! :(

No wurries.

Given up long haul flights, immigrtation, security hold ups etc. I cannot live with anymore.

Glad I did my travelling when I did.

How is that going to work in practice? By that, I'm referring to not being allowed to go to the toilet within an hour of landing. What about passengers with weak bladders? The trots?

And all because the 'intelligence' services didn't do their jobs properly.

Returning to the UK on one occasion, when our daughter was 3 or 4, she informed my wife that she needed to go to the toilet. Unfortunately the fasten seat belt signs were on due to some mild turbulence and so the stewardess told us that our daughter couldn't leave her seat. She held on for a while but in the end - at the instruction of the stewardess - she had to urinate in her seat. They did change the seat cushion but even so it was a very embarrassing and humiliating experience - particularly for my wife as I wasn't travelling with them and there was another passenger in the seat next to our daughter. So perhaps airlines will have to carry a lot more spare seat cushions or perhaps issue all passengers with incontinence pants.
