Started snowing on Boxing Day 1962 & the roads weren't clear of snow until about April.
I remember a gang of men with shovels clearing the snow. They were having to throw it way over their heads to keep it from falling back. We were cut off for about 10 days & the first vehicle out was a tractor used for moving the muck. The farmer reached the shops & filled the bucket with milk, bread & other essentials. Bread wasn't sliced or even wrapped in those days but I don't remember anyone being worried about it being dirty, just relieved to get something to eat.
