Actually, last time I did a repack (which was about three years ago lol)- I had actually taken photos, which I still had in my NAS...
Luckily my Dewalts at least have labels...
Actually I was wrong, the BMS is internal on mine (it was the old one that didn't have the internal BMS)
(not all brands are the same layout, so you might want to check with a 'good' battery before concluding that the one under test is a dud...- oh and btw- the '18v' DeWalts and the '20v' DeWalts have the exact same number of cells in them!!! Its all a marketing ploy grrr- 18v is the nominal 'rest' voltage, while 20v is the 'charge voltage'- but a 20v battery must be 'stronger' than an 18v one right??? All BS marketing...)
This is mine...
Had a quick search, this is the 'guts' of the one I did the repack on a while back (I took photos of the connections before disassembling it- always a good habit to get into with multiple connections)
Obvious why the repack was required!!! (the two on the left with 'rusty' connections were both zero volts and wouldn't respond even to 'brute force' charging- I'd say from the corrosion they had vented- this is one of the two batteries used in my electric chainsaw, which really pulls the amps!!!)
Other side
The two thick red/black are obviously the main outputs from the battery pack, the two thin red/black go to the 'voltmeter' PCB visible at the 'front' of the battery, and the various thin colours are the 'intercell connections' that allow the BMS to monitor each individual pair of paralleled cells voltages (thats actually 5 series cells, with 2 cells in parallel in each 'step' ie a 5S2P battery pack)
