I use use roof-bars on my Volvo Saloon. I bought the square-section bars so I can use 'G' cramps to secure sheet and other wider stuff.

Timber up to 7 feet long, I fit through the 'Ski-port' in the centre of the back seats and I can feed in about 5 x 50mm in from the boot. I found the ski-port in my first Volvo by accident, so if you aren't sure about yours, check it!

In emergencies, I can drop the front-passenger seat right back and fit in a surprising amount of match-board etc. :D

I often see them coming out of my local mill, with floorboards and the like sticking out the passenger windows and facing forwards, like a giant lance.

One pr**t' ended up paying more than he bargained for his section of match board, because he got forced over to the kerb and the timber went one side of a lamp-post while his car stayed on the other side. What a mess! Fortunately there was no one on the pavement.

No Officer.. I never saw a thing!

I get all sorts of grief of the wife if I get any on her front seat..
lol

Next time go for leather upholstery!

Or, you could cadge a few temp, plastic seat covers from a garage.

John :D

I know it is really just laziness on my part..
Am supposed to be looking at a car tonight after 19:00 but
It is not the weather to be giving a car the once over, to wet to windy.
The wife only likes cloth interiors so leather is out of the question..

Obviously your wife doesn't have to clean the seats then! Leather.. Great. Easy to clean and a great smell in the car, after a good feeding with leather cream!

Best of luck with the 'new' car.

Edit:

My neighbour is having some woodwork done in his home.

So, I just saw what I would call the ultimate in transport for the working Joiner. The guy doing the work uses a long-base Land Rover van, with a full 'cage' roof-rack fitted. Very functional.

No pics I'm afraid,. It wouldn't be ethical, but I wonder if this is a Brummie, forumite?

:D :D
