Your solicitor must have had the plans in early days of the search, why didn't they "set off the alarm bells". From experience (with a minor issue of boundary ownership) a decent conveyor would have quicky spotted this as part of their role, before the surveyor got involved.

If what you say about vendor is true ( not declaring issues) then they have committed a fraud IMHO. Aided and abetted by their solicitor.

My solicitor says not all solicitors will do the searches that show the drains, instead covering with an indemnity so vendors would argue they didn't know. Makes me feel about pulling out though, or less bad at least

When I instructed the sols they asked for £200 for the searches. One part of the searches is contacting the water company for drains information. I paid the 200 in November and they waited till dec to contact Welsh water for those plans. Those plans are what showed the sewer under the house, nothing until that point showed the sewer

Might be a bit of a grey area in this case though as it's possible the vendors weren't aware of the sewer or didn't view it as an issue.
I guess if they weren't asked directly if any drainage abnormalities they could have a good legal defensive argument.

I’m sure they knew as the mrs was asking why wouldn’t we consider specialist foundations. In any case I commented more because the abuse we got and them being unable to understand the late pull out. It’s a marital split so they aren’t having the best time of it I wouldn’t take it further , chalk it up to a learning experience.

On another topic I need help deciding what to do with my electric box cover over in general wood working feel free to comment
