Hi All !!

After wanting a lathe for a while I finally brought one. Just learning at the minute, but I thought i'd say hi and post a photo of my first bowl and spindle work .

Welcome.A heck of a lot better than my first attempts that's for sure. Look forward to seeing what you do with a bit of practice.

Welcome to the forum webby997, braver man than me to start practicing spindle turning on Oak.
The Bowl to me looks a lot like Elm, what ever it is the finish appears good and if you achieve that in early pieces you have mastered on of the prime factors of turning.

The bowl looks like elm to me too 997. Nice shape and a good finish. The oak looks good too.

I'll tell you what. If you put a round bottom on the spindled oak you could finish up with a mean mortel and pestle, em, portal and massel, erm, pessal and mortal?

Oh sod it, a really good bowl and basher!

Welcome to the slipery slope of turning :D Good to see bowl and spindle turning being done too.

Hello Luke,

I've been turning for only a month. I hope you have plenty of loose change, because this slope they keep mentioning is not a nursery slope. More of a black run in my case. :)

Hi and welcome.

Better than my first pieces by a long way.

Have fun and keep them coming.

Take care

Mark

Thanks for your warm welcomes ,

As for the wood I'm not sure what it is, was just the first two bits that come out the bag of wood that come with the lathe.

I have found out how addictive it is and indeed the loose change has been leaving the wallet.

I'm picking up a bandsaw on Saturday and the shed needs a bit of re-jigging but hopefully get turning on Sunday.

I'm sure I'll be asking a few questions as I come across things etc

Cheers - Luke
