I gave my daughter a lift home this evening, only to find a 'For Sale' sign outside her house!!
Naturally she was shocked and upset!..its obviously a 'mistake', but nevertheless a stupid one!!
Advice please on how to approach the estate agent tomorrow morning, apart from saying 'whats going on'?

Thanks for any advice

Gerry

The companies that put the boards out are often subcontracted out. I've heard of mistakes like this before. I read somewhere where somebody came home and found their house scaffolded. Nobody ever turned up and they kept the scaffold.

Don't take it too lightly. There are all kinds of cons around.

Most people don't hold the deeds to their property, an unscrupulous solicitor can have a field day.

Police Scotland are selling off surpus police stations. Earlier in the year they sold the big station in Dunfermline and probably made more than half a million at least. Or so they thought. It was still owned by Fife Council and they had to give them the money they made. I thought you couldnt sell a building you didnt own. Dont think anyone has been charged with fraud yet!

Most deeds are held by HM Land Registry electronically and any conveyancing is done using these. Apart from very unusual circumstances, paper deeds are only kept for "interest" value. The system changed, very quietly from a public perspective, when Stamp Duty was modernised for the first time in the mid noughties (IT modernised again in 2011/12) and you could file on-line, which meant there were no documents to actually physically stamp.

No, that's a common misconception. If I park my car on your drive it does not become yours.

Hmmm, I need a newer car. Park it on my driveway and we'll see what happens  8)

No - but he can stop you entering the drive to get it again :)

He then becomes guilty of theft. Same thing if you don't return balls that your neighbours children kick over the fence.

if your swarm of bees flies onto my property it becomes mine, unless you are following it.

More accurate to say 'the bees are no longer mine', than that 'they become yours'. What if my cat comes into your garden? As I'm sure you're aware the laws pertaining to animals are different, and complicated.

It becomes fair game for my Boxer and American Bulldog
... but have you seen my cat?
