im 15 and reccently started a project to build a bench press stand, in one day i did it using anything i could find in the garage.
note that i have no woodworking experience.
the stand holds the barbell and weight but on taking it on off the stand shakes, how do i stop this? i recorded this and have uploaded it on

/watch?v=Rko2ZbuGzxw (add youtube to it because i cant post links)

please ignore the background as the room i am using was a on suite turned storage room now turned into gym.
also, could i leave the barbell resting on the wod or would that create to much pressure?

thank you in advance.

I think you need to study the professionally made items more to see what materials are used and how they are braced to stop side to side lozenging.

A single nail fixing is just not secure enough as a join and is certainly puts you in danger of serious accident if the frame collapses and drops the bar on you.

Without trying to sound dramatic, you are placing yourself in danger if you use that barbell stand in my opinion.
Professional gym equipment and home gym equipment is made out of tubular steel.
Bench pressing is one of the exercises where you can get into serious trouble if the barbell stand collapses especially if you are training on your own.
My advice would be to join a gym or look for second hand proper gym equipment if you cannot afford to buy new.

Top marks for having a go at making the stand yourself. Looking at the vid I would say that it looks like the stuff you're using is a bit too small for the weights you're putting on it, also you need to add some angled bracing side to side, like CHJ shows.

I'd suggest using much bigger wood if you can get it, something like 4x2 (four bee two) which is 4 inches by 2 inches thick that's 10cm by 5cm. You can often find a lot of this in skips by building sites or where someone's doing up a house. Ideally you also want to use a lot of screws to join the wood together, with as large a "contact surface" as possible between joined bits.

Here's a sort of idea diagram. The one on the left really needs to be braced from one side to the other as well, but that would depend on where your bench fits.

Good luck and don't stop trying to sort it.

The main problem I can see with that is that if you are working on your own you need to be able to drop the bar safely and quickly if you value your larynx and spine. You haven't time to faff about trying to get the bar into a slot.
Do yourself a huge favour - save up, find a tame welder to make one, if you can't buy one cheaper. It's not worth serious injury. Advertise in the local small ads. for one, maybe? A lot of people train for a while and then give up.
