hi fellas,
doing my bit for the enviroment , I`ve managed to kidnap some Hardwood frames from being "skipped"....but does anyone know what type of wood they use for H/wood frames??
While its not exactly ABW, its a lot better than using B&Poo pine, so im pretty sure I can make something out of it..
just need to now what type/species it could possibly be.

TIA

Any pictures,Neil ?

Sapele is the current favourite with my local joiners.Idigbo is becoming common as well, although distinctly lighter (in colour and weight!)

I can't speak for yours, but normally any cheap crap. mass produced hardwood windows, have no real density to them. I know that doesn't mean its not durable, but most windows are from a Meranti type. Or as alot of timber merchants around here class it as, Far Eastern Red Hardwood.

hopefully heres a couple of pictures....

the wood varies from the straw coloured stuff top , front.. to a dark almost chocolate colour with a swirly grain to it and heavy too boot..

the largr of the tables is 16" wide x 39" long and the two smaller tables are 16" x 191/2" made so ,that they can sit together for playing games and such like with the kids/family.

sorry for the quality of the pictures its from my phone.

sorry to bring this back to the top, guys.....
but I could look at wood ID`s all dayand still get it wrong, I guess a lot of it is down to experience, (of which I have very little, Hardwood wise)..
so a couple more pics, freshly palned , hoping you can help me out..

are they all the same?, does grain and colour, and density vary so much in hardwood????
hope you can help at least I can then stack it in appropriate piles..

I can't help with the timber ID but I guess it is possible for it to vary in colour and density depending on whether it is heartwood or sapwood.
BTW, I wish the skips around here were full of hardwood that was in need of rescuing. I'm what is known as a constipated scavenger, you know, can't pass a skip, but I rarely find anything worth dragging home. I'd be more likely to find rotting softwood or uPVC.
