Don't worry scrit, along with colour television and something called radio; an answephone will be introduced to you northerners by the end of the year.

It's the only way we can get the cumbrians to stop torturing the world with this mascot:

Ahhh, Sneck Lifter , half a dozen of those and who cares about the blisters.

who cares about the blisters

Damn you've just reminded me I didn't enjoy it that much after all :)
Seriously though it was my first long distance walk and I made the classic mistake of carrying too much stuff. On the first day I made it to the youth hostel with a swagger John Wayne would have been proud of :). The thing is after a day like that, beer tastes better than anything ever could. By the last day I was virtually unable to walk due to blisters and my ankles swelled up. Cracked it now though, get rid of the damn Goretex boots and get Leather boots, did the Pennine way no blisters at all.

Nah! just 4.6%, but I'll give you it has a passable flavour.

I lived in Whitehaven for a couple of years, still visit the area when i can.

I like to do a bit of walking every now and then and my first chioce is always Cumbria

I like Jennings too ............. this stuff resulted in a painful trip up and down Scafell Pike with a hangover.

Said to SWIMBO the other night that we ought to do a bit of walking and cycling in the Lakes at some point. Closest I ever get is the view from the Landy window as we trundle past on the motorstrasse on the way up to Edinburgh - Rob
