Gate and fence ideas/ solution please. Pretty please.

You know when you have one of those simple solutions to something, then as time goes by you rethink, amend, settle, repeat and end up with absolutely no idea what the hell to do? well this is one of them.
Quite a simple project. Our back door is on the side of the house. The side of the house is the driveway leading to the road. We have a dog. We want to be able to open back door and kick, sorry, let said dog out, and as an added bonus add a little security/ privacy when leaving back door open.
Original idea was simple fence panel from garage to post (surface mount), metal gate at right angle, second post and half a fence panel to wall.
See attached pics.

Issue 1. No money (couple of hundred max)
Issue 2. drains directly below.
Issue 3. mustn't look like a prison courtyard.
Issue 4. maximum 1.5m from house. 1.8 - 2m from garage.
Issue 5. did i mention no money
Simple solutions or ideas please.

Straight line angle it across as a a one piece panel including gate - say from edge of garage door to corner of drain. Site the door/gate swinging in to the right to clear the steps and to go back flat to garage wall?

PS or step it out a bit from the house wall with a short panel and a door/gate in the longer, angled panel.

Can you make the gate and panels 6'6" high? If so then the gate frame can have a top rail, whicn locks all the structure together and the corner post only needs a sinhge bracket fixing to ground.

Maybe a 4'0 fence panel on gravel board, top capping, 2'0 trellis another top capping, post caps and finials.

Must admit Jacob, diagonal had not even occurred to me. Just went out and measured and it may be too restrictive for furniture in/out , unless gateway is level with door. a bit close to the doorway without the short panel (700mm) But its not out of the question.

Robin, good idea about the top rail. - 1.8w panel from garage wall to corner post, gate at 90 from post, second post as receiver and a smaller panel to house wall. top rail from each wall to corner post. Can one purchase narrower panels e.g 1.5m minus gate width? or maybe trellis panel on end?

A simple post and hand rail to left of doorway steps, filled in with lightweight trellis (needed for winter now you are getting more mature :twisted: )

Loose fix lightweight similar height panel between rail post and garage to put in place when settled in at night for your cup of cocoa or glass of whisky.

When funds improve (RATFL), Porch over door with entrance door and one to rear garage passage.

Dog flap under window, one fence panel in line with garage.

Doesn't help with privacy but hey hum can't have everything.

The porch was my first idea but two chimneys having to come down at a grand a pop, and a large velux replacement have put paid to that.
Not quite reached the handrail requirement yet, but thinking ahead...

Nev, could you make up a framework to span the 1.8 m section, fixed to the garage front at one end. The opposite end could be made up of a 3x3 or 4x4 post fixed to ths ground with a metal bolt-down fence post holder. You could infill with trellis effect for some privacy. Then the return to the house wall would be a gate, or gate and side panel, hinged to a post affixed to the house wall for strength, with the gate part hinged at the house side. You could possibly strengthen by triangulating at the tops of the panels.
You could even have the trellis part hinged to the garage so that it can be swung aside (i.e. covering part of the garage door) for better access when furniture moving is needed - you wouldn't have to negotiate a corner then.

3ft ish . Hes a 10 year old border collie, so his gate jumping days are over, but can still do 0 to Squirrel in the blink of an eye

Seriously, though, I was thinking along the lines of Graduate Owner, above - would probably be the neatest and strongest.

Just a thought, could you not put 3 gates across the full width of the drive nearer to the front of the house, with a 3' pedestrian gate on one side and split the remaining opening with a pair of gates wide enough for a car.

The mini is a banger, just a shiny one, and if I ever take up hairdressing I've already got the car

Yep. Driveway gates are on the want list but unless they are automated they'd invariably get left open, so they're an aswell not an instead of.

Think I'd go for a simple picket fence. It would give you a bit of privacy but also not make it a dark corner. Couple lengths of treated 3x2 with a bevel on the top edge. Then your choice of picket style. Pallet wood but pretty it up with some nice white paint or opt for some nicer treated wood and let it weather with the rails.
If twer me I'd be going to the local tip to see if they had any timber. I bought a load of treated 4x2 a while ago that looked like it had once been a stud wall. More recently I got a 3 metre gluelam beam (150mm x 400mm) for a tenner. Someone had cut it in two for easier transportation and it sat in the workshop for a few months until I found a use for it. Turns out it was perfect for new slats for my shed alteration- I got alot of 7mm rips outta that bad boy !!!
I saw a retractable windbreaker type thing on ebay the other day- that would be a silly idea though.....

If you decide to go diagonally, why not make the fence like a bifold door that way it opens enough for getting in- out but has the scope for more access space if needed

Driveway gate just the right length to latch to garage when open? This would make a long dog-proof fence to the front (pedestrian?) gate..... Depends on the rest of your plot layout.
