In a moment of beer fuelled bravado the other day I had a conversation with my wife about the fact that I didn't believe that there was £4k+ worth of wood in an off the shelf garden office.

Well shes called my bluff and wants me to build one, the problem is I have no idea what building regs are required or where to start in the design.

Does anyone know if you can buy off the shelf plans or am I best getting plans drawn up? :?

Any advice greatly recieved, thankfully this wont be put into place until next year so i'll have a bit of time to plan :D

Thanks

Darren

i saw a set of photographs of one being put together

if you are doing it youself from basic timber the majority of your work will be machining the joints between the timbers, it looked like a very large t&g joint

google log cabins, you should find a number of books

they will be from north america/canada and from northern europe

hi
i had an office style log cabin built earlier this year, and it is 10ft wide x 14ft long x 8ft high, it is made of 44mm pine and has double glazed door and 4 double glazed tilt and turn windows, it cost £2,500 including erection, and its fabulous.
The picture of it can be seen here:

do you know if they come insulated as well? as we were thinking it could double up as a quest room?

I had a look at the website and they look like just what we're after

thanks

Darren

I built a well insulated workshop, which as many friends have commented, is good enough to be a guest room. Well it adds up and £4K is not bad for materials. You have to add you labour in. If you research good "home offices", you are looking at £10 - 15K+
