I made a start on my next project today. After returning from the timber merchants with a car full of softwood I cut everything to size and started on the mortices.

Got these done pretty quickly with the morticer and then started on the tennons after cutting a test piece.

This was a quick job too as I used my 'other' RAS with a dado blade in it.....shhhh
When these were finished I used the router to cut a groove in the rails to take the VT&G boards.

While I had the router set up I also routed the rebate for the glass which will fit into the top section.

Then it was time for a dry fit of the frames.

I then installed the diagonal braces and did a glue up and by the end of the day 5.30 ish I also had the boards fitted.

Not a bad day at all. I shall also be building a set of gates to go with these and will be fitting them all together. The gates will probably take a bit longer as there are quite a few mortices on them. We will see.

Looking great alan! Reminds me of my days making similar stuff ..... time flys by.... that was a year and 4 months ago now since I last touched any garage doors.....! You need any help? :-D

I have lost count of the times I have heard that question Sim. 'Do you need any help or an apprentice' I am taking on an extra pair of hands tomorrow for the gate fit, but it's a mate. :D
I got the garage doors finished today ready for the glass and the hinges.

I won't be fitting them yet as I have a set of gates to build for the same customer so will fit both at the same time. :D

I like them, brings back memories of my childhood, there just like the doors my father built for his workshop about 40 years ago, still got them in fact, although they are not used as doors any more, the top rail and glass was removed, they have been turned upside down and are currently hiding an oil tank. His workshop is now a garage for his MG and he has a remotely operated roller shutter. How things change...
