I have a spare calor gas bottle (15kg size).

I think is is almost empty but would save someone the deposit fee.

£5 anyone?

(Collection GL6, Nailsworth)

Calor will buy it back off you but you might need a reciept... That's what they said when I bought an orange one anyway

True you pay a "Deposit" but they never ask for "proof" where I exchanged them as long as you have one to swop.
Just as well as I have misplaced my original receipt. :)
You can even change them for a different size - I went from a 7.5Kg to a 13Kg without any problems.

I don't have the original docs so doublt whether Calor would give any refund.

So, perhaps to remain legit - cable tie for sale, £5 (you are welcome to the large blue lump it is currently attached to FOC on the condition you return it to Calor!!)

You do not need any documentation. As has been mentioned the very first cylinder that was bought had a deposit paid for the rental of the cylinder along with the gas and it was a simpe exchange with a charge for the gas every time a refill was needed.
So just take it back to your nearest supplier. You used to get a fiver for them or else Calor donated a fiver to Childline for every unwanted bottle.

Don't know if they still do but Calor used to donate £5 to Childline for unwanted bottles.

You don't get cash back for them anymore (without a receipt). We found half a dozen which had been abandoned at our house, and I thought i'd get some cash back for them. But a number of Calor dealers told me that without the original documentation you won't get a bean for them.

That sounds like a really daft attitude but explains why I see so many of them dumped.

None of this means it isn't worth something to someone who wants one. I know technically they're rented, but really who's to know if an empty one changes hands for a tenner? I just acquired one a couple of days ago from a neighbour having a garage clearout. Having a spare means I don't have to rush up the roud with it rattling around in the car when my workshop heater runs out in the depths of winter, I can just switch over and wait for the guy to deliver me one.

I think it was introduced in an attempt to curb the cylinders being nicked then returned for the refund.

I can't be certain but I suspect that 'daft attitude' makes it uneconomical for people to steal them and then claim the refund.

Documentation never made it over here in this part of the world. Guess things are different with you guys. Of course the bottles were rather popular in the terrorist IED business here over the last 30 years. Can also be adapted to make something called a Mk 9 mortar too.

In that sense it is sensible but, lots of people have probably lost their original receipt (esp if they're as organised as me. ) tho that is no excuse for just dumping them. Surely if the dealers were to ask for proof of ID they could give the refund? Having to give ID would highlight 'career bottle nickers'.
