Hi all, I laid 10mm laminate in the hall and living room with gold vapor underlay. I specifically got this thickness because my mum's carers use equipment a lot and need it to last. Reason for laying laminate was to keep house warmer which it has done.

However, the adjoining room to the hall which is my mum's bedroom, still has floorboards and I want to laminate it too, but don't feel it's neccesary to get 10mm for this room and hope to get more affordable stuff. Is there any way of laying something first, to bring the height up before laying a 6 or 7 mm laminate that brings total height to adjoining 10mm laminate?

Obviously I don't know your situation, but is it likely the carers may have to use bed hoists etc at some point? Could be better to take the hit on 10mm now if it's possible.
To answer your original question though, you could lay 3mm hardboard sheets over the floorboards to get to the level you need

Ply wood is available in 3 -3.5 and 5-5.5mm drop depending on the supplier and similar with mdf .,
EDIT The fibre type underlay mats are around 3 mm thick and if used with 7 mm laminate will put you give or take at around 10mm . The mats mean you won’t need ply or mdf keeping your costs down..
