Can anybody help with this. I need to replace a very old film radiator currently on 6mm pipe (1/4") it has two identical valves, I want to fit a thermostatic valve. How to I identify the flow side, tracing the pipe not an option it runs through the skirting then under the plaster, much of the 50s/60s modernization in this house was done by some local fiend with his own three hands. The system has 6mm, 8,mm, 10mm and 15mm where it has been replaced more recently.

If the system is working turn it on from cold and feel which valve gets hot first
FYI, there's now many thermostatic valves on the market which work equally well on flow or return - just check the manufacturer's specs before you buy.
