I know it isn't in the spirit of finding and making your own solutions, and no idea if the kit is common knowledge now, but this just appeared in my UKW ads and looks like it'd be a real boon to anyone making instructional videos without a camera person:

I'm assuming you could programme it to look at the workpiece, turn to you speaking (or whatever) and then back to workpiece at the push of a button. 850 Euro's a lot, but compared to the price of a half-decent DSLR and considering the functionality it adds, maybe not too much for serious video-ers?
(They have loads more interesting-looking kit, but that's going to be £££s!)

Ahh, I was hoping you used canon stuff. I fancy having a go at making a few floor preparation/ leveling videos and have a 600D but I've never used the video function and know nothing about it.

Have a look at Magic Lantern - it's a lot of fun and rather useful. It's intended for video production, but I use the peaking (in live view) for awkward macro and "wildlife" stuff, where I can't easily see focus any more because of glasses. I haven't updated mine for a while, but I believe some Very Clever People have finally cracked the SD card controller chip, so, in theory, I could now stream full-resolution raw video. There's a bunch of other very practical features (as well as HDR video output and other stuff), such as reassigning many of the buttons in a more useful way and options for the display. There's also an intervalometer.

For some models, there is also a nifty way to use the audio input, allowing you to use a balanced source, albeit in mono. It's not relevant for me (the 6D has pretty reasonable audio features, considering), but the audio control is also much improved on some models (features vary depending on the hardware).

PS: Don't be put off by the "failed test" flags on the nightly builds - on the 6D it doesn't cause issues, and the failure may well be trivial. If it worries you, roll back to a release that passed everything. I've been using it for a number of years (three or four) and not had big problems.

They’ve been around for a little while; trouble is to get the kind of functionality you’re suggesting (pan and tilt, along with the slide) you’d need to add a couple of their heads, and a clamp to the slide, and suddenly the price doubles. Oh, and you can get a half-decent DSLR for a lot less than one of these sliders.

Fun kit though, if you have the need, and the funds; I had a play a little while back - wonder if they’d like to send me one for review... ;)

The classic kit is the Hague dolly https://www.wexphotovideo.com/hague-d5t ... t-1611750/
I sold one recently for £75 on ebay (my son is in the business and getting rid of stuff).
Dirt cheap to make your own:
It's basically two rails made of 2" plastic drain pipe as long as you want , longer if joined by smaller pipe inserts ( 6" length of pipe with a longitudinal cut to make a spring insert).
The dolly is a simple platform with three recesses to sit the tripod in, riding on 4 wheels without tyres - the rims keep them on the track. (Or even better 8 wheels like the Hague itself - see the link)
What's clever about it is that it is self aligning - the two rails will adjust themselves as the dolly passes over them, assuming a reasonably smooth floor

Hey, it's almost April 1st, but somebody's peaking early:

https://edelkrone.eu/pages/non-digital-camera

Not quite getting the point of this, and it seems to be just a digital sensor with a printing service... or a really cheap film camera that is styled like a smartphone.

Seems like it’s a smartphone app that’s meant to recreate the experience of using film by not showing you the pictures you take, and making you wait and pay for prints to be delivered. Except the app isn’t available, so presumably somebody applied the 4x2 of common sense, but neglected to delete the web page. :/
