@Etaf I remember a year or two ago reading something about a UL regulation coming in regarding the size of a table saw table in relation to the size of the blade, the bigger the blade the more room you had to have around it. I also remember seeing something saying because of this DeWalt were producing site saws with smaller blades so don't worry you aren't going mad

The issue may be tip velocity (faster with a greater diameter) as much as distance around blade.
